Read more about Yubelina, the Indonesian follower of Jesus pictured above who was badly burned after an attack by Muslims on her Christian Village, on the Persecution Blog and this post from a subscriber to the VOM newsletter:
Her skin is splotchy & ranges in color from light brown to red to white. Much of it is leathery. Her nose is disfigured. She has a purplish-colored patch of skin in between her bottom lip & the bottom of her chin. Her upper lip is peeling. Her left eye is white & red; her pupil is clearly no longer able to see.
But she is smiling. A huge smile. Joy radiates from her. Why?? She must receive stares. Children are probably afraid of her. The world would call her damaged. Ugly.
Yubelina has figured out where her identity lies. She is a treasured child of the King. She has traded “a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning” (Isa. 61:3). Her smile reveals Jesus.
Yubelina is beautiful. I guarantee she has a joy, a contentment, that no name-brand, trendy clothing; no perfect haircut & makeup; no flawless skin or toned body can bring.
True beauty…

How very inspiring she is! You can see the light still shining from her inner self. Beautiful! I’m just now reading “Tortured for Christ”, by Richard Wurmbrand. Heartwrenching, but, awesome testimony. If that book doesn’t motivate complacent, worldly Christians, maybe nothing will.
It’s our responsibility to support the persecuted Church members everywhere. To hear how Wurmbrand was strengthened when he thought they had all been forgotten by others and then the American and UK Christians came to Romania to help the underground Church lifts up my spirit and gives me hope.
God will magnificently bless these brave souls!
I’m getting this picture printed on a T-shirt to wear. This picture is my desktop image.
I show this picture to people all the time —
But how many people do I pass everyday without telling them the Good News of our Savior Jesus Christ. Why? Because I’m making a Decision:
I’m Deciding that suffering inconvenience for a few minutes is more Important than that person Burning in Hell. That’s the Real Choice I’m making – Unwilling to Suffer momentary discomfort while our Christian Brothers and Sisters are out there Suffering like this woman for being a Christian. What will I say when I die and Jesus asks me why I was unwilling to suffer so little while his children are in prisons, tortured, and killed For Him. For Him.

How many people do you pass everyday?
Remember this woman big, bright, and close up in your mind each time you pass by an opportunity For Jesus. Make the most of her example, let it motivate you.
