In response to a CNN article from Jennifer Knust entitled My Take: The Bible’s surprisingly mixed messages on sexuality, Dr. Michael Brown gave a critique of her points on his radio broadcast, The Line of Fire, on February 14th. He then did a follow-up show regarding the question “Are We Using the Bible to Sanction Anti-Homosexual Prejudice?” on February 15th. Listen to the broadcasts below:

  1. It’s Ka-noost. And you really need to expand your scholarship. Professor Knust is looking at the contexts of the biblical authors, not just the words on the pages. You should accept a challenge and get out of your bubble; take a class or two or three at Boston University with Professor Knust. See what she has to say and then develop a legitimate argument against her instead the pathetic one you just gave.

  3. Krista,

Thanks for writing and clarifying the pronunciation of Prof. Knust’s name. Would you be kind enough to: 1) explain to me what bubble I need to get out of; and 2) give me any example of where I did not treat the biblical text in its historical, grammatical sense?

just FYI, I never studied in Bible college or seminary; I have a B.A. in Hebrew from Queens College in NY and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Literatures from NY University, and my main areas of scholarship are in Old Testament, Semitic philology, and Jewish-Christian apologetics.

I look forward to your reply, and please let Prof. Knust know that she’s welcome to join me on my program to discuss her article and that I’d gladly have a public dialog with her at the university if desired.

  4. Krista, It seems apparent from your comment that you could possibly be the person who is inside a bubble. I’m sure its hard to see from your perspective, but I just wanted to let you know that not everything taught inside a classroom in Boston is authoritative.
I hope you keep listening to both sides of the issue.
    Jeff
