David Wilkerson, truly a man of God if there ever was one, died today after a life lived unto God. Below is part of his message, ‘A Call to Anguish’:
Dr. Michael Brown had this to say:
Some shocking and tragic news: David Wilkerson was killed today in a car accident in Tyler, Texas, and his wife Gwen was seriously injured. How he will be missed! Let’s pray for God’s grace to be poured out on the family and for his words to be listened to all the more carefully and soberly. And let all of us live in the light of eternity.
Here are the last words on David’s devotional blog for today, the day he died. Very appropriate:
Beloved, God has never failed to act but in goodness and love. When all means fail—his love prevails. Hold fast to your faith. Stand fast in his Word. There is no other hope in this world.

What can I say? How do I come to that place of anguish? To that place of sharing in the sufferings of Christ? That’s where I want to be…at the Cross.
So Sorry to hear about Rev David, the cross and the switchblade was one of my all-time favorites as a teenager.
I pray that god will give his family peace in the midst of this storm.
It’s a sad news for all of us.. But his life and death remind me of this song by Don Wyrtzen
When surrounded by the blackness of the darkest night,
O how lonely death can be;
At the end of this long tunnel is a shining light,
For death is swallowed up in victory!
But just think of stepping on shore-And finding it Heaven!
Of touching a hand – And finding it God’s!
Of breathing new air – And finding it celestial!
Of waking up in glory – And finding it home!
Hi Bonnie,
Just read on facebook the news regarding your dear parents’ accident. Have thought of you through the years since meeting and hanging out with you in my college days. My prayers are with you. So grateful you KNOW where his eternity is. Am listening to your father’s message at this moment on Anquish and how TRUE it is! Lord, may we become people as he was referring to! Love and blessings.
The saddest day on earth but, the most glorious day in heaven as David goes HOME to behold HIS face for eternity! He will be cheering us all on among that great cloud of witnesses. This man has been our mentor for over 30 years and we cherish his beloved family. Our hearts cry out with them as they lay his broken body in the ground this week and our prayers are for his darling Gwen as she recovers from the anguish over her sweet husband leaving earth. Blessings on his wonderful legacy, Gary, Greg, Bonnie & Debby and the entire Wilkerson family. Wrap your precious arms around them, sweet Father, as only YOU can do, lean hard beloved, lean hard!
What we are “missing”, i.e. direct ongoing knowledge of the government of Christ, David knew in his soul and life devotion. The birth pains of the coming Kingdom will drive us close to the kind of heart David had for others, and our own relational commitments. He is missed.
Had the privilege of seeing this brother preach in Oceanside, Ca.
back in ’83. He ministered to me then and still does in the above
teaching “Anguish”. Please church of the Living God “Wake Up”.
I pray for his family, but I am sure they all know they will see him
again. His work here on earth was finished and now he is home.
As a boy growing up in Toronto Canada David Wilkerson was my hero. I will always remember this great man of God.
I am deeply moved by David Wilkerson’s death. He was to me a spiritual father. Someone I looked up to, someone I could trust. Someone who cared and gave his life to help lead us straight to Jesus and His Cross. I will miss him very much. I know that his greatest desire would be that we take up the torch left behind from his ministry and prove ourselves faithful to the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. David, you are now with the cloud of witnesses that surround us and we wiil take courage and continue to fight the good fight of faith, looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our Faith. Thankyou for the inspiration of your life. Only eternity will reveal its true impact.
For me its like losing a family member, David Wilkerson was a true man of God who preached a message that even the church sometimes took offense to, just like many of the prophets of old.
I loved David Wilkerson, this has saddened me terribly.
He finished what the Lord had for him and has gone on to be with his LORD. He will be greatly missed by everyone whose life he has touched, I know because I am one of those people that he made a difference. May the Lord’s peace, strength and love be with his family at this time.
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of this great man of God. As a boy growing up in Toronto Canada David Wilkerson was my hero. When he had crusades at the Varsity Arena I would go forward at the altar calls so he would lay his hands on me to bless me.
To be absent in the body is to be present in the L-rd. Praise the L-rd. Mr. David Wilkerson was an instument used by G-d, in my life.
There will never be another man like this great man. David was my spiritual father. He still is. My prayers go out to the family and especially Gwen. She took the time to write me a letter just to me , a personal letter helping me make it through teaching a very rough class that year. I will never , ever, forget Gwen’s love for me and for her husband’s care for me. He used to c ome to our church in Houston, Texas when I first got born again in l978. What he added to my life is beyond words. May the Good Lord grant this awesome family much grace and mercy. I will never be the same. May the good Lord help me be more like David Wilkerson who always wanted to be more like Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
During high school and attending Inter School Christian Fellowship and then Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship, I got to see the Cross and the Switchblade many times. David Wilkinson also visited our island and I was so blessed to hear him. I also read his book and saw the movie. I just saw this news and it is very sad indeed to hear not only of his passing, but how he died. May God be with his family at this time. I know he will be missed.

My name is Federico. I live in a small town named Campofranco, in Sicily, Italy. Wednesday 27 April, we have losted the major spiritual father of mondial Church, but will remain to us his sermons and his written. I’m very sad for brother Wilkerson’s death, a great God’s man. I’m very sad above all for the way of his death: for a stradal accident. I’m don’t believe still that he is really dead. But, also for the way of his death is happened he will be remembered. I believe that own Wednesday afternoon (in Italy), perhaps in the same moment when David Wilkerson died, I reflected on the person that could replace worthily David Wilkerson in the mondial Church. Coincidense? And, also now, I ask myself: will be there other God’s ministries as him in this and, if the Lord don’t will returns before, in the future generations? I says it not only to reference to his deep and special anointing in his sermons and books but also for his sincerity and spiritual opening. I have spent years to read his sermons and books. They have enriched my spiritual life. His sermons and books have revolutionize my life. I don’t know if still will exist preacher as him and with a story as his. He will miss to me and he will miss to all world Church: a God’s man that has left to us in inheritance a spiritual impact and a example like that very strong. (Federico Scifo, Sicily, Italy)

This is the most timely and important message for Christians and believers in Jesus Christ to hear said today. I hope everyone will listen to this anointed preacher.
It is and is not timely because the case Bro. Wilkerson gave included a cultural reference carthasis of experience where the prophet would feel such anguish related to what had happened to his people. Today we live in the lukewarm status of mixed blessing and mixed indifference. Anguish arose from the conditions in his society of reference which the quoted prophet personally experienced, was grieved over directly, and expereinced directly. What we need is to establish a considered S O B R I E T Y of petition and heart before our Father to request action of Him. It seems unlikely that the exact soul status of the mentioned Prophet will be ours unless we experience direct and compelling alike circumstances. It is simply unrealistic to expect anguish at this juncture from our presently affluent people. So, let us agree together for a spirit of sobriety and repentance to be embraced by those who will do the effort of Prayer for the obvious needs negatively influencing our society. We have lost much ground, we must soberly petition to strengthen the things which remain, as well as know renewal for the purposes of a Salt and Light witness among his own.
Are conditions such that we need now to rethink our own property and isolated households status, and begin to plan for more community living and accountability lifestyles for the pressing future? How will the community of faith fare if the economy worsens, food and fuel become more prevailing issues, and the kind of moral leadership once in place in our nation continues to wain? What action plans for mutual covenant responses do we need to take to influence other souls to come to Christ and His Way and Life?
Can I simply say what a aid to search out someone who truly knows what they’re speaking about on the internet. You definitely know tips on how to carry an issue to gentle and make it important. More individuals need to read this and perceive this side of the story. I cant believe youre no more fashionable since you undoubtedly have the gift.very nicesubmit, i actually love this web site, carry on it
The time to repent is NOW! Stop show biz christianity. Stop superficial church that think that to gather in the youth you need a youthful Pastor. Stop the disconnected way we treat each other! We say be well, be fed, be loved, and do nothing for them. Return to Christ, and return before it is to late!
David Wilkerson was a great messenger of Goad, as Micheal Brown is. I was laying in a hospital bed recovering from a serious car accident when I got the news about Bro Wilkerson. I was listening and reading his daily writings and messages for years. And had gotten the Call to Anguish just before my accident.
I had spent 4 months in the hospital and rehab, and God was with me, ministering His life to me from the moment of the crash. I Praise God for His healing and life. And a renewed commitment to His calling on my life.
My story is very long, but God has used it to reach others. There is no time to waste. This world is dying around us
and they need Christ. And the church needes to awaken from their sleep and compromise.
